Who can carry out PAT testing?
Above all else, someone
unsure is someone dangerous!
One needs to be a competent person to carry out PAT testing.
In practise what this means is that anyone can do this after
some training or clear instruction.
They need to be able to take sensible precautions, such as
switching off etc. and need to be shown what to look for when
carrying out testing. A simple PASS/FAIL PAT tester will help
greatly with this. FTAV engineers have been trained to a certificate
level and use Europa digital PAT test equipment.
The person carrying out the PAT testing will need to know the limit of their expertise and know when to pass matters to a more skilled person. For example the person carrying out the PAT testing may be competent in the testing, but might not be skilled enough to carry out any repairs. Often businesses find a more cost effective solution to be FTAV’s PAT testing contract.
